Silent Film Music Festival in Ryogoku, Tokyo
Special evening to celebrate the art of silent film accompaniment, with benshi (silent film narrator) Ichiro Kataoka, satsuma biwa (japanese pipa) player Nobuko Kawashima, and pianists Ayumi Kamiya and Kaname Tambara.
A handful of silent films will be screened with various styles/formats of live accompaniment, as well as discussions on the art of providing the sound to films from the silent era in the western countries as well as in Japan.
