What: Silent Movie with Makia Matsumura – 2018 Art of the Piano Festival

Composer/pianist Makia Matsumura has been accompanying silent films for 15 years internationally. She will demonstrate and talk about the improvisational live scoring, a traditional way to provide musical accompaniment to film screenings in the silent era. The program will include the screening of Charlie Chaplin’s THE IMMIGRANT (1917) and Harold Lloyd’s GRANDMA’S BOY (1922), both with Matsumura’s live accompaniment.
