Performances in Tokyo – Spring 2018
I am pleased to announce my upcoming performances during my homecoming trip to Tokyo around Japan’s Golden Week this year!
On Friday, April 27th, I will be joining the panel of wonderful silent film accompanists – including both musicians and a benshi! – at the Monten Hall in Ryogoku. This is going to be a quite unique evening, as this is not just a film screening but a celebration, discussion and exploration of the art of silent film accompaniment. We expect the multi-faceted observations as well as demonstrations, mixing both Japanese and the “western” styles and formats. I myself am very excited to be part of this program, this event cannot be missed! :)
On Wednesday, May 3rd, I am delighted to be back at the Jimbocho Theater to accompany “Woman of Tokyo” by none other than Yaujiro Ozu, as a part of the 115th Anniversary of his birth at the theater. I have played for quite a few of Ozu’s silents – in fact I started my career as a silent film pianist at his 100th Anniversary 15 years ago) – but this will be my first time accompanying “Woman of Tokyo”, looking very much forward to it.
