I haven’t played in Manhattan for almost a year, but I am pleased to announce that I will be playing at the Museum of Modern Art this month, as one of the three pianists who will be executing “Vexations”, a one-page piano piece written by Erik Satie with the instruction to repeat it 840 times, which John Cage premiered in 1963. This week marks a personal milestone in my career as a silent film pianist. Until this week, I haven’t played for any of Buster Keaton films – but this week finally I will play for it, and not only one but two – SHERLOCK, JR. on October 4 and STEAMBOAT BILL, JR. on October 6. I am very excited about it – and the fact that October 4 is in fact Buster’s Birthday is really “the cherry on top of the cake”. :) Continue reading
